The new Netflix original feature takes place in an alternate present day Los Angeles, where humans co-exist with various magical creatures. Daryl Ward (Will Smith) is an LAPD agent who partners up with an orc (Joel Edgerton) to search for an ancient all-powerful relic. Cinematographer Roman Vasyanov and gaffer Rick Thomas combined forces to produce a mystically engaging backdrop for Ayer’s latest thriller.
At their disposal to help capture the look Ayer needed, was a wide variety of LiteGear products. “LiteTiles and LiteMat 4’s were used throughout the movie at almost at every location,” says Rick. He added, “RGBA-Hybrid LiteStix were heavily utilized in all of the Vice Hall scenes.”
The crew also lit the interior of Ward’s police cruiser completely with LiteRibbon, “We built several different sized LED fixtures with LiteRibbon (mostly tungsten) 4”x4”, 4”x8”, and 8”x8”, and mounted them onto flexible magnetic material.” He added, “We had metal plates installed into the cruiser ceiling above the driver, passenger and rear passenger seats that allowed us to place our magnetic fixtures anywhere quickly.”
